My practice focuses upon intellectual property management and protection, contract preparation and negotiations, copyrights, trademarks, intellectual property audits, new product development, licensing, joint ventures, acquisitions and divestitures, and distribution. I represent a wide range of print, electronic, and multimedia publishing companies as well as creators of artistic properties such as literary works, and art work as it relates to publishing. I am admitted to the Colorado Bar and District of Columbia Bar.

I received a B.A. from Marietta College and my J.D. from St. Mary's University. I've studied development economics at Cambridge University, industrial economics at the New School for Social Research, and international law at the University of Innsbruck.

My 30 years of experience encompass worldwide publishing, communications and business management, including:

  • New Business Development
  • Acquisitions & Divestitures
  • Worldwide Licensing
  • Intellectual Property Law
  • Start-Up & Turnaround Scenarios
  • Strategic and Financial Planning
  • Protection and Optimization of Intellectual Property Rights

Prior to establishing my law practice, my professional past included top management positions at large and small publishers/communications companies, including Simon & Schuster, Group Vice President; Prentice-Hall, Director of Corporate Development; Weston Woods, Managing Director; Reston Publishing, President; and Prentice-Hall Media, President/Publisher. As Principal with Waugh & Rich Associates, I've worked with domestic and international publishing and communications companies as a consultant, working on a variety of publishing, management, financial, and strategic issues, with CEO's and their key executive and management personnel.
